What can BOTOX do for me?

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® blocks the transmission of acetylcholine from the nerves to the muscle. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter which sends a message to the muscle telling it to contract or tense up. With the flow of acetylcholine blocked or significantly reduced, the muscle can no longer retract and it relaxes. As a result, the wrinkled areas smooth out and soften.

Who should not have BOTOX® injections?

Women who are who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not have BOTOX® treatment. People who have neurological diseases should not use BOTOX®.

What can BOTOX® do for me? – What areas of the face can BOTOX® injections treat?
BOTOX® is most frequently used to treat wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet at the outside corners of the eyes.

There are some types of wrinkles BOTOX® cannot help.
Sagging, drooping skin cannot be corrected using BOTOX®. Damage caused by the sun, such as leathery, wrinkled skin is also not appropriate for treatment with BOTOX®.

After your BOTOX® treatment – How long does it take until your BOTOX® begins working?
While you may notice some results immediately, the full effect of BOTOX®, along with the maximum wrinkle smoothing effect, will take a few days.  Typically, it takes from three days to a week before BOTOX® will take full effect.

How long does a BOTOX® injection last? – What is the typical wait between BOTOX®treatments?
You can expect the effect of your BOTOX® treatment to last anywhere from four to six months. As acetylcholine production returns to normal, your muscles will once again begin to contract and the wrinkles will reappear. That’s the bad news. The good news is that your wrinkles may be less prominent after BOTOX®treatment because your muscles may be somewhat “trained” to be in the more relaxed state.

As the wrinkles reappear, you will have to have repeat BOTOX® treatments to get them to disappear again.
